The Tortuga Ranch is a nice, smaller cattle ranch with level to rolling sandy loam terrain covered with blue, black and side-oats grama, little blue stem and galleta grasses with scattered cholla and cedars, a mild climate, an estimate 180 day growing season, elevation at 4380’ above sea level and an annual rainfall estimated at 15” of moisture per year allowing for a year round operation.
The ranch is located 5 miles west of Newkirk, New Mexico on the I-40 access road (Old Hwy. 66- paved) to Brahma Road (all-weather road) and 3 miles north to the ranch affording seclusion yet accessibility.
This ranch is well improved as follows:
1. A main dwelling with three bedrooms, two baths, approximately 1680 sq.ft. of living area, a metal roof, wood siding and a 16’X30’ carport.
2. A 12’ X 24’ bunk house with a wood burning stove.
3. A new metal storage 40’ X 20’ building with 110/220 electricity, a 20’ X 30’ shop and a 20’ X 20’ horse barn.
4. The ranch is watered by four windmills located throughout the ranch, approximately one mile of pipeline, two wells at the headquarters equipped with submersible electric motors and pumps on electricity and earthen dams. Well depths range from 65’ to 90’.
5. There is a set of steel cattle working pens and good to excellent fences throughout the ranch.
6. Hunting in this area consists of mule deer, antelope and quail.
